Reflection of 23 Things

  • What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?                                         My favorite exercise were Things 6,7,8,15,20,21.
  • How has this program affected your lifelong learning goals?                                                                   I would say that the only goal that has changed since the use of this program is to learn more about the technical side of teaching and learning about the different sites I can use within the classroom.
  •  Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?            It was shocking to me how many sign-in's I had to do for each activity . I wish there were more sites that didn't require accounts because making accounts for every site is tiring . I was also surprised at how much information and resources are out on the web to look at .
  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?                                I would change the amount of Things in the program. I felt that some of the activities were similar and repetitive. If you wanted to use similar resources than I think it would of been a good idea to group those activities together instead o so far apart .
  • How will what you have learned influence your practice as a teacher?                                                      It just changed how I look up resources for the classroom and what sites that I want to keep as mental bookmarks to use for later. As far as how I want to teach it hasn't changed how I want to be as a teacher .
  • How do you plan to keep up with new developments in web 2.0? Recommend a way that you have found to be useful.                                                                                                                                         I will keep up with new developments by continuing to read other people's blogs and referring back to certain the resources I learned throughout the program. I also will continue to use my blog that I created as a reference for research for other resources as well.

Thing # 23

Creative Commons is a good resource because it has a pool of free pictures and images that you can take from the website that is copyright free. It also helps in that it also directs you to websites that is also copyright free . An example of  23 Things being modified from its original is there is a symbol on the bottom of the 23 Things showing that is has gone through creative commons . This is the symbol :Creative Commons License.
This can be used within the classroom to help limit plagiarism and copyright infringement .

Thing # 22

My three binders are called Educational Binder one which holds all game ideas, Educational Quotes, and Educational Lesson Plans . I would use this in the classrooms as references to go back to when I need ideas for later . This is a great resource because it is like having a binder but everything is held within its own  binder and is held online . Using the information in my three binders will help in how I teach and help motivate my students within the classroom.

I really enjoyed this resource !!!! This is definitely a resource I want to use within my classroom. It is easy to use and I think it is something that my students will enjoy watching !!!

Thing #20

I love using Youtube . It is so easy to use and has videos for everything that you can think of . I chose this particular video because her message is something that I can agree with . As educators we need to be these champions to our students because they know whether or not we have their best interest . Using youtube in the classroom would be a good tool because their are a lot of good resources that the children can gain knowledge from and it is easy for the teacher to use in the classroom .

The other resource I looked  into is Synctube . http://www.go2web20.net/app/?a=synctube. I can incorporate this within the classroom for extracurricular use for fun. I would video random moments within the year and play the random clips for the student at the end of the year so that they could look over what they accomplished over the year.

Thing #19

  •  I discovered that social networking for educators is best used when trying to come up with new ideas for the classroom
  •  I am also a member of Pinterest  besides Facebook and Twitter .
  • All the ones stated in this blog plus tasty kitchen and bake space The Teacher's Guide to Social Media
are social networks that are appealing to me
  • Some things that I found interesting are the things I can use within my class  for class management under the Pinterest for Teachers . They also had other good ideas as far as what to do for extra curricular things in class and activities that the students can do . As far as Tasty Kitchen and Bake Space their are good ideas for cooking recipes and things to incorporate for holiday foods.

Thing #18

I went and searched for #elementary and it pulled up a twitter accounts of different schools and what they do within an elementary school setting. It is important to understand social networking because if you do not know about it you are enclosing yourself from the world around you . I really didn't gain any new insights using Twitter because the concept of Twitter is very similar to that of Facebook and Myspace. I was indifferent about searching for the hash tags I was interested in . I can see myself using hashtags and twitter as a resource in my classroom to connect with others in the world and to get different aspects of things but that would be the only use I would have for it .
